СКАНДИНАВСКАЯ МИФОЛОГИЯ
мифологические представления, бытовавшие до 11 в. среди норвежцев и родственных им народов - шведов и датчан. В 9-10 вв. викинги принесли эти мифы на Русь, на Британские острова, в Исландию и Гренландию, но сохранились они только в Исландии по причине ее относительной изоляции и поздней христианизации.
Изначально основные представления этой мифологии бытовали среди группы родственных народов (в частности, предков нынешних голландцев, немцев и англосаксов), которые в 1-5 вв. мигрировали из Скандинавии на юг и на запад, в Ютландию и низовья Рейна. Именно через скандинавскую мифологию до нас дошли значительно более древние мифы, некогда общие для норвежцев, шведов, датчан, исландцев, голландцев и англосаксов. Комплекс мифов, бытовавших среди этих северо-западных индоевропейцев, никогда не отличался однородностью, поскольку мифология родственных племен непрерывно развивалась вплоть до христианизации этих регионов (Англия в 597; Исландия в 1000). В мифологии северо-западных индоевропейцев наличествуют связи и параллели с мифологиями греков, римлян, индусов, а также хеттов. Проиллюстрировать эти связи можно на примере древнеиндоевропейского верховного божества - Небесного Отца. Индоевропейская форма его имени реконструируется как *Djevs (звездочка показывает, что форма гипотетична). Древним индийцам этот бог был известен как Дьяус, грекам - как Зевс, римлянам - как Юпитер (Йовис), а древним обитателям Северо-Западной Европы - как Тивас; готы звали его Тиз, древние германцы - Зиу, древние фризы и бритты - Тиу, древние норвежцы - Тюр. Все варианты имени однозначно восходят к форме *Djevs.
Два основных литературных источника скандинавских мифов - Старшая Эдда и Младшая Эдда, созданная Снорри Стурлусоном (1178-1241).
